THE BRIXTON PROJECT

I’ve spent a long while at this great company as a graphic designer. Starting off as an assistant in Digital Design to Senior Graphic Designer. Owe a lot of my professional experience to the team.

Here’s a compilation of bits and bobs i’ve done for the team.

Off the fence 2023-24

Off The Fence Is a collaboration between Brockwell Live and The Brixton Project. This annual project transforms the perimeter festival wall into a vibrant canvas for art and poetry, reflecting the rich culture of the Lambeth community.

I’ve been tasked to create, design and curate 400 meters of art around the contested Brockwell Fence during festival season from 2023 and 2024.

Now imagine trying to cover 400 meters with limited content. The mind needs to get creative to fill in the gaps. Many beers helped me gather more content and inspiration for the gaps :D

Windrush 2022-4

Lambeth’s Windrush celebrations will acknowledge and amplify the presence of the Windrush generation and their descendants within Lambeth, highlighting the contribution they continue to make to our community. A proud and joyous reclamation of Black Britishness, We Are Here re-asserts what it means to belong, with Windrush stories taking centre stage in Lambeth’s buildings, streets, and landmark institutions.

In 2023, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Windrush, The Brixton Project delivered its most ambitious programming to date, organising “Procession” – A huge celebration of the Windrush Generation through the streets of Brixton. The Brixton Project partnered with Lambeth Council to facilitate the distribution and support of several Windrush events across Lambeth through the “Windrush Community Fund”.

Procession was inspired by the work of local artist Hew Locke and involved local schools and young people. It led to Windrush Square, where a programme of performances and speeches took place. Harnessing the traditional spirit of carnival with art, theatre, and music; Procession set the story of the Windrush migration within the wider context of Caribbean heritage through the themes of Ancestry, Caribbean Roots, Building Britain, Carnival, and Future in celebration of the Windrush generation and their transformative role and contribution to shaping modern Britain. Procession took place along Railton Road, a key artery through Brixton and a historic space for the UK’s black community.

During Windrush 2023 I continued to manage creative design over this years  branding for the Brixton Project.

The year of 2023 celebrated the 75th Anniversary of Windrush arrival. We made sure to convey that in our design by partnering with Getty Images and their archive.

The design work went beyond billboards and and into Toolkits given out to the community of Lambeth and School resources for neighbouring schools.

Care card (SELCA)

On Saturday the 13th of January 2023, the Brixton Project delivered the launch of the Care Card on behalf of the NHS South East London Cancer Alliance in partnership with the Multicultural Marketing Consultancy (MMC).

With assistance with MMC I came up with the design and appropriate way of executing a card that has details of various important screenings.

The Care Card Launch took place at Morley’s Department Store in Brixton, a much-loved local institution, and was part of two wider campaigns to promote a community driven approach to improving the health of Lambeth’s Black communities with a particular focus on sharing information on testing and screening for Prostate and Breast cancer. The prime location of the launch, along Brixton High Street, ensured that the campaign was accessible to a wide-reaching audience. Over 750 Care Cards were distributed throughout the course of the day.

My design for the Brixton Project has been shortlisted for @TheDrumAwards in the Social Purpose: Community Engagement category.

The Drum Award festival celebrates the best work, companies, and people from the world of marketing and media, and we’re honoured to be a part of it.
