OVERHEARD - 03 / 12 / 20

Artist and anthropologist Jaffar Aly is one of the 2020 graduates we’ve selected to feature in our new Introducing series.

‘Abundantly coated canvases and impulsively scribbled words define Jaffar Aly’s surrealist collection of Basquiat style portraits. Combined with a captivating gallery of portrait photography, Aly has built up a body of work that echoes the diasporic nature of his upbringing in the UK. The Zanzibar-born artist continues to dispute the heteropatriarchal norms of the education system he was placed in and is determinedly paving the way along his own artistic path.’
