Creating a space for those who have their voices silenced. Creating a space for those who have had opportunities stripped from them. Creating a space for the subaltern, in reference to Spivak ‘Can the Subaltern Speak? (1994).
Gelila Negussie organised an exhibition which aimed to create and claim a space of acceptance. “Negus & Nigist”, Amharic for a royal title, King and Queen. This exhibition was truly a masterpiece, touching on topics which are kept under the rug. “Taboo” topics became normalised through the expression from the multitude of performances on this night.

Spoken word artists to musicians, TED talks and many more displayed the variety of skills from those who are kept silenced.
The 150 + audience that came to support left with a true understanding of what an exhibition should really display.


Jaffar Aly, also under the name of ‘mycatsdopressupseverymorning’ displayed the following artwork. Including a talk on “the concept of perfection”.
