An Effort is excited to present an exhibition of Jaffar Aly’s CLR* Series which he has produced during his Spring 2022 Residency at An Effort Art. CLR* features a series of portraits which depicts untold and erased narratives.
Aly’s sitters are intimately interviewed through a series of questions whilst he interprets their stories and personhood into illustrative portraits on the canvas. Through the bold colour palette of the series it may appear that Aly has made a departure from his previous solo show, Black Angst, and that matters of race have been placed on the periphery. However, he maintains that an undercurrent of race and gender continue to play a part in multicultural stories he is telling.
